Signature Fields and Types

Create signatures by drawing, uploading, or typing, then place and assign five field types precisely on any page.

Signature Fields and Types defines what gets signed: signers create signatures by drawing, uploading an image, or typing, and senders place and assign signature, initial, text, checkbox, and date fields on any page.

How it works

Signers choose one of three signature creation methods at the moment of signing, and the platform records the method in the audit trail. Senders drag fields onto any page of the document with pixel-precise placement and resize handles, then assign each field to a specific signer or mark it sender only. Each signer sees and can interact only with their own assigned fields; other signers' fields appear as context but are not editable. Fields can be placed on any page of a multi-page document, not just the first or last.

Key capabilities

  • Three signature creation methods: drawn (mouse or touch), uploaded image, or typed with styled fonts. All produce legally valid signatures.
  • Five field types: signature, initial, text, checkbox, and date.
  • Initial fields sized for per-page acknowledgement on long documents.
  • Text and checkbox fields with required or optional flags.
  • Date fields with consistent formatting and optional auto-fill of the current date.
  • Per-signer assignment so each field is filled by its intended signer.
  • Sender-only fields that hold internal data the signer never sees or modifies.
  • Pixel-precise, page-specific drag-and-drop placement with a placement preview.

Tips

Signature Fields and Types covers what gets signed; Signing Workflows covers how signatures get collected, including sequential, parallel, and approval routing.
